the absolute balance of stunning and awkward in niemeyer's inverted pyramid, reminds me of the utopian 1700's works of etienne-louis boullee. images are from oscar niemeyer, works in progress, 1956.

Courbet's "The Origin of the World"
your comment hit me just as i'm re-editing a recording of video game instructions for the kaprow performance, and just and i read the courbet title, the stereo says "you are a gun shaped like a snake head". synchronicity indeed! i remember taking students to see that painting in paris, which still shocks... wonderful...!
Syncronicity indeed.
It's hanging at the Met right now. I went to see it recently, and (in light of woman problems i was experiencing) it shook me to the core.
